DEPARTMENT FUNCTIONS / RESPONSIBILITIES:

Our city employs several hundred full- and part-time employees who serve our community in various areas of public service that include public safety, parks and recreation, environmental services, managerial, technical, clerical and other operational areas. Our department is committed to assisting our customers, both internal and external, by providing information and support in such areas as compensation, benefits, safety, training, employment opportunities, and employment law.

The Human Resources Department provides a broad range of services to employees, department managers, the Mayor and the City Council and is responsible for:

  • Providing strategic leadership, modeling excellence, honesty, integrity, and teamwork
  • Developing, revising and communicating sound policies and procedures that balance the needs of the employees and the needs of the City while ensuring compliance with federal and state law
  • Recruitment, testing, and certification
  • Compensation administration
  • Payroll and benefits administration
  • Organizational changes
  • Employee performance evaluation
  • Employee training and development
  • Safety and worker’s compensation administration
  • Regulatory compliance with various federal and state laws

Our MISSION is to provide quality HR services to attract, develop, motivate and retain a diverse workforce within a supportive work environment. We do this with an emphasis on customer service based on consultation and communication with the City’s departments, our workforce, and our citizens.
